How To Automatically Transcribe Video to Text For Free (2020)

Looking for ways to transcribe video to text? You can go about it one of two ways: automatically, by using automatic transcription software, or manually by firing up a word document and playing the video side by side.

In this post, I'll show you how to automatically transcribe video to text online for free using Vocalmatic.

How do I get started?

First up, register for an account on Vocalmatic. Once you've signed up, you'll get 30 minutes of automatic transcription free so you can try it out on a file.

Once you've verified your account and have completed the quick onboarding, you'll be taken to the account page:

Then, click on the New Transcription button to get started.

Here's how to automatically transcribe your video to text

Select "video" transcription

On the New Transcription page, select "video" as your recording type. This will let Vocalmatic know that what you will submit is a video to transcribe.

Upload your video

In the next section, click the square to select the video to upload. Give it a few minutes to upload depending on the size of the file and your upload speeds.

Select the language your video is recorded in

Next up, click the dropdown to select the language to transcribe your video into. We support over 100+ languages!

Select the transcript formatting

In this section, choose the type of formatting you want your transcript to be in. You can select between our default formatting and SRT.

And finally, Submit!

Once you've completed all the steps, the submit button will be visible and you can send your video off to us for automatic transcription.

How long will it take to transcribe the video into text?

When it comes to automatic transcription, it takes up to the duration of the video file itself. So, if the video file is 30 minutes long, you can expect the results within 30 minutes.

So in this video, let's go over how to automatically transcribe your videos into text. We support transcribing mov OG MP4 and webm videos. I'm just going to jump right in and if you haven't used vocal Matic already, I have another tutorial where I go over how to transcribe an audio file and it's pretty much the same process except this time. We're going to be selecting video. So once you've logged in and you've gone to the transcription page, just click on new transcription.

Then on the new transcription page first select video and right now we only support English u.s. In the future will be supporting other languages, but for now just English us and after you've selected video now, you can select and upload the actual video that you want to transcribe. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. So we're just going to give it a minute to upload.

Okay, great. Now that it's done uploading we can submit it. So on the third step it says select language, but because we only support English us for now. It's blocked out and it's selected for you. But we could do is you could enable automatic punctuation. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. They're going to click submit then confirm and submit and voila. You've submitted your video to vocal mattock and we will automatically transcribe it for you. Okay, when the transcription has completed it will show up.

Your transcriptions page and just simply click on the link and it will take you to the edit page and there you have it on the left. You're going to have the transcription that's returned back. And on the right you're going to have the video alongside playback controls. So this will help you get started with transcribing your video file. Hopefully, it'll help cut down on the time.
